To accelerate the uptake of battery storage and support a cleaner, more reliable energy grid, both NSW and WA governments have introduced state-based battery incentives that complement the Commonwealth’s Cheaper Home Batteries program. •    In NSW, eligible households and small businesses can receive increased amount up to $1,500 Virtual Power Plant (VPP) incentive (BESS2) starting 1 July 2025 by connecting their battery to a VPP through an approved ACP.  However, the BESS1 will be suspended from 1 July 2025 and will be noticed if anything changed further. •    In WA, residents may be eligible for up to $3,800 under the WA Residential Battery Scheme, with the rebate amount based on battery capacity and energy provider. These programs can be combined with the federal battery rebate (CHBP) t

NSW VPP Incentive (BESS2) – Key FAQs
1. What is the NSW VPP Incentive (BESS2)?
It’s a one-off incentive of up to $1,500 provided by the NSW Government for households or businesses that install a compliant battery system and connect it to a VPP via an accredited provider.
2. When is this BESS2 available?
The VPP incentive under the BESS2 method, which has been active since November 2024, will remain available from 1 July 2025 onwards. This means you can continue to generate PRCs under the BESS2 method after 1 July.

Eligible customers include:
•    And anyone who installed a compatible battery from November 2024 onward under the NSW battery incentive, but has not yet signed up to a Virtual Power Plant.
3. Am I eligible for the rebate?
You may be eligible if:
•    You install an eligible battery as defined by the NSW Government;
•    The installation is submitted by a registered Accredited Certificate Provider (ACP) under the PDRS;
•    You sign an agreement with a VPP provider and allow your battery to be remotely managed.
4. Can I claim both NSW and federal battery rebates?
Yes. The NSW VPP rebate (BESS2) can be claimed in addition to the Commonwealth’s Cheaper Home Batteries rebate.
5. What is the application deadline for PDRS BESS1 activities?
To be eligible under PDRS as a BESS1 (new battery installation), the system must be fully commissioned and submitted before 1 July 2025.
⚠️ Important:
If you choose to submit a BESS1 job before 1 July 2025, this means the installation is considered commissioned under NSW rules, and you will not be eligible for the Federal STC rebate under the Cheaper Home Batteries program.
